Subject: Ancestor Seekers Report - Project 9648 Carl (Charles) F. Rutz session 1

Conclusion: It might not be possible to find the records that you seek.

Hello Owen.

I am pleased to inform you that I have received the following report from your research consultant in Salt Lake City:

Project Title
Project 9648 Carl (Charles) F. Rutz session 1

Objective:
To determine if there are records at the Family History Library for the parish serving Charbrow, Pommern and to examine them for birth, marriage, and death records for the family of Carl Ruthz.

Records Searched:
parish finding resources, Internet

Results:
When I searched the parish finding resources I discovered that the Evangelical Church is in Charbrow and that the Catholic Church is in Lauenburg. Unfortunately there are no records available at the Family History Library for those two parishes.

At the time that the Meyer’s gazetteer was written, there were very few Catholics in Charbrow, so I would guess that your family was Lutheran.

Using the Internet, I was able to determine that the church archive for that area also has no records for Charbrow. During the wars that area was extensively bombed and many of the records were destroyed.

One note I found indicated that the existing records in the archive in Stettin cover 1766 – 1804 and those seem to be confirmations and communicants. Another note said that there are no registers in the church at Charbrow and none in the archives Unsure what archives it refers to.

Here are some possible resources for you to try:

This group might know of some church records of baptisms, marriages, and deaths for Charbrow that I have not been able to locate. Or, they might know of another researcher who has Rutz information.

There is a history of Charbrow: Manfred Hensel : Chronik des Dorfes Charbrow/Degendorf (2001) I tried to find a copy of it at the Worldcat website with no luck, but perhaps the organization mentioned above might be able to direct you to a copy. It is written in German. There is no indication of what sources were used to compile the history.
I’ve included below the entire name index for the book in case there are other family names that ring a bell. There is no Rutz listed, but one of the families on the ship’s manifest with your Rutz family was Dzur , and that name appears in this list. That might provide a back door for you to find information about your Rutz family.
